COURSE TITLE- THEORY OF MASSAGE (600 Hours) This course is designed to provide the student with a wide variety of Swedish Massage techniques in the manipulation of soft tissue. This course will also provide the student with basic knowledge of the anatomical structures and physiological functions of the human body.
CURRICULUM ANATOMY and PHYSIOLOGY (160 hours)- The study of the human body, the structure of the body, and how it functions. This course of study shows how each system of the body must integrate with each other, in order to function properly. These systems include: integumentary (skin), muscular, skeletal, nervous, endocrine, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and urinary. You will learn how these systems obtain nutrients, transport oxygen and carbon dioxide externally and internally, how we use them for energy, and remove wastes through excretion.
PATHOLOGY (20 hours) - The study of structural and functional changes caused by diseases.
MICROBIOLOGY (6 hours) - The study of minute living organisms, including bacteria, molds, pathogenic and non-pathogenic protozoa. This course of study is to help prevent the spreading of contamination from one client to another.
MASSAGE THEORY and PRACTICUM (337 hours) - This portion of the course will include the theory and history of massage therapy, by using a wide variety of Swedish techniques. Massage Therapy increases blood circulation, tones the body and reduces stress, through soft tissue manipulation.
REFLEXOLOGY (6 hours) - Techniques used to help keep the body and systems operating under the principle that there are areas in the hands and feet which corresponds with the organs and glands in our bodies.
SPORTS MASSAGE (8 hours) - Techniques used to help athletes reach optimal performance, reduce strain, and increase blood circulation. It also helps to reduce the risk of athletic injuries. |
